What is a Photo Tour?

Throughout the year, amateur and professional photographers are invited to join Jay S. McMullan to photograph the beautiful Western United States. Photo tours are free of charge and limited to a small number of photographers. This is a time for all of us to let our hair down and just have some fun photographing various parts of the country and getting to know one another.

This year’s Photo Tour will be held near Moab, Utah USA. If you have never photographed around Moab, you have missed one of the most beautiful places on earth. I am looking at holding the Photo Tour in September 2002. The exact date has not been set. The Photo Tour will be limited to 20 people. I’ll be camping out by the Colorado river and invite you to pitch a tent next to mine. You can bring a motorhome or stay in a motel. Rooms are cheap that time of year. We’ll build a fire, tell stories, and just have a good ol’ time. I’ll even provide the fixin’s for my own Texas Chili recipe on one of the nights.

The Photo Tour is for anyone who loves photography. You do not have to be a professional and you do not have to use the same kind of equipment I do. Just bring your cameras and film and your love of photography and let’s have some fun!

Workshop Descriptions

These workshops are held in Salt Lake City, Utah and surrounding areas. They are designed to simplify camera and exposure methods. Workshops are held several times per year and can be set up any time you and a group of friends would like to learn. I can even travel to your city and hold a workshop with you and your friends.

Mastering the View Camera

In this one day workshop, participants will learn the proper use of the view camera. They will learn why the view camera has so many adjustments and what the purpose of each one is. Polaroids will be made by the instructor to show the participants how perspective adjustments on the view camera affect the finished photograph. Proper exposure techniques and filter use are discussed also. Learn the basics in this course to build a foundation for you to master your view camera! This course is absolutely essential for anyone contemplating the purchase of a view camera or the new user. A syllabus is provided to each student and lunch will be provided free of charge.
